Interview with Dr. Badv
Dear Dr Badv, please introduce yourself and mention everything necessary about this medical center.
Hello, I am Reza Shervin Badv. I studied at the Children’s Medical Center and also completed a course in Australia. I have mostly practiced medicine in the city of Zanjan, and after serving as the Vice Chancellor for Treatment and the Vice Chancellor for Education at Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, I transferred to Tehran University. Here, I was appointed as the head of the Children’s Medical Center and I serve as a pediatric neurologist.
This center is one of the oldest modern children’s hospitals, founded in 1968 by the late Dr. Gharib and Dr. Hassan Ahari.
This center has produced many graduates and, recently, a subspecialty in hematology has been added to the program, which is now accepting fellows in this field. Additionally, we provide training in pediatric medicine and pediatric surgery, where specialists complete their subspecialty training and continue their practice afterwards.
In this center, we have over 100 faculty members, more than 70% of whom work full-time, including specialists in internal medicine, surgery, and general practice.
We have five independent ICUs, a cardiac surgery ICU, and a NICU for newborns. We are in the process of adding twelve more beds to this hospital. As the largest children’s hospital in Iran, we accept patients from across the country, which places a significant burden on this center, making it operate at five times its capacity. For example, our emergency department admits 400 to 800 patients daily.
In our special clinic, over 850 patients are seen during the afternoon shift, totaling around 1,500 patients per day, which is a very high number given our physical space limitations.
With God’s help, we plan to open another medical center nearby, which will be the first general center in the area where we will transfer surgeries to provide better service to our patients.
In the field of research, we have an international journal where articles from both inside and outside the country are published.
We have three large halls in this center for conferences and research. Hall number 1 and 2 each have a capacity of 400 people and hall number 3 has a capacity of 250 people. Additionally, we have a multipurpose hall with an area of 600 square meters. In October, we usually hold the International Congress of Pediatrics in these halls, targeting those working in pediatric medicine. This center is one of the scientific hubs for pediatrics in the country.
It is worth remembering the deceased members of this center, Dr. Gharib, the founder of this hospital, Dr. Ziaei, who was one of Dr. Gharib’s students, and other dedicated and hardworking doctors of the center. In conclusion, doctors across the country consider this place a family in scientific discussions, and we are in a coordinated system to serve doctors and their patients. Additionally, the doors of this center are always open to benefactors.
